Witches
Part of a series of works inspired by the European witch hunts of the Early Modern period – roughly 1480 to 1780. An increase in a lack of tolerance to “outsider” groups in society coupled with a long-standing interest in both history and the supernatural in art, fiction and cinema led to the creation of these pieces with the intention of highlighting the fact that “the more things change, the more they stay the same.” The work was produced in a variety of of media and was produced as research material before I started to focus on the Pendle witches.
